Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) Programme 

ABOUT MM2H PROGRAMME

Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) Programme is promoted by the Government of Malaysia to allow foreigners who fulfill certain criteria, to stay in Malaysia for as long as possible on a multiple-entry social visit pass.

The Social Visit Pass is initially for a period of ten (10) years, and is renewable.

Eligibility

It is open to citizens of all countries recognised by Malaysia regardless of race, religion, gender or age. Applicants are allowed to bring their spouses and unmarried children below the age of 21 as dependants

FINANCIAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants are expected to be financially capable of supporting themselves on this programme in Malaysia.

Upon application:

  • Applicants aged below 50 years are required to show proof of liquid assets worth a minimum of RM500,000 and offshore income of RM10,000 per month. For certified copy(s) of Current Account submitted as financial proof, applicants must provide the latest 3 months’ statement with each month’s credit balance of RM 500,000.
  • Applicants aged 50 and above may comply with the financial proof of RM350,000 in liquid assets and off shore income of RM10,000 per month.  For certified copy(s) of Current Account submitted as financial proof, applicants must provide the latest 3 months’ statement with each month’s credit balance of RM 350,000. For those who have retired, they are required to show proof of receiving pension from government RM 10,000 per month.
  • Approved participant who has purchased and own property which was bought at RM1 million and above in Malaysia may state his/her intention in letter of application during submission to lower down basic fixed deposit requirement.

UPON APPROVAL

i) Aged Below 50 years old

  • Open a fixed deposit account of RM300,000.00
  • After a period of one year, the participant can withdraw up to RM150,000.00 for approved expenses relating to house purchase, education for children in Malaysia and medical purposes. Must maintain a minimum balance of RM150,000.00 from second year onwards and throughout stay in Malaysia under this programme.
  • Approved participant who has purchased and own property which was bought at RM1 million and above in Malaysia may state his/her intention in letter of application during submission to lower down basic fixed deposit requirement of RM300,000 to RM150,000 on condition that the property has been fully paid and ownership documents such as grant and land title have already been issued. This amount may not be withdrawn until the participant decides to terminate his participation in MM2H programme.

ii) MM2H Applicants aged 50 years and above:

  • Must place a Fixed Deposit in a bank account in Malaysia of RM150,000
  • Can withdraw up to RM50,000 of the fixed deposit after one year to purchase of house, medical insurance or children’s education expenses.
  • Applicants can use their car purchase grant to withdraw part of their Fixed Deposit after two years.
  • Must maintain a minimum balance of RM100,000 throughout their stay in Malaysia under this programme.

Car purchase (copy of Car Grant issued by the Road Transport Department. Receipt of booking fee is NOT ACCEPTED)

iii) MM2H Applicants who have purchased a house (or houses) with a total value of RM1 million and above.

  • Must show evidence of ownership and full payment of the property.
  • Must have been purchased within 5 years of application for MM2H visa.
  • Will have to place a Fixed Deposit in a bank account in Malaysia of RM150,000 if under 50, and RM100,000 if over 50.

MEDICAL REPORT

All applicants and their dependants are required to submit a medical report from any private hospital or registered clinic in Malaysia

MEDICAL INSURANCE

Approved participants and their dependants must possess valid medical insurance coverage that is applicable in Malaysia from any insurance company.

However, exemptions may be given for participants who face difficulty in obtaining a medical insurance due to their age or medical condition.

There are many types of insurance policies available in Malaysia that you can choose. The more comprehensive ones come with investment and a life component. However, for the MM2H program, a basic medical insurance plan is sufficient. For those who are overweight which exceed the normal scale of the insurance company, you may be required to pay extra for the insurance premium.

The medical insurance guideline for a basic plan is as follows:

Aged below 50:

Couple (age: husband 45, wife 35) – MYR 610

Family (age: father 46, mother 40, daughter 10, son 15) – MYR 975

Aged above 50:

Couple (age: husband 55, wife 50) – MYR 653

SECURITY BOND (DIRECT APPLICATION ONLY)

Applicants applying directly are required to fulfill the security bond condition. Please refer to Personal Bondfor rate per person by nationality, ranging from RM200 to RM2000.00.

PERSONAL BOND (APPLICATION THROUGH AGENT)

Licensed companies are required to provide the personal bond for their clients who have been approved under the MM2H Program.

STEPS TO APPLY

STEP 1: PRE-SUBMISSION

Take note of all the documents needed (on the right window). Go to Step 2.

STEP 2: SUBMIT APPLICATION

STEP 3: CONDITIONAL APPROVAL LETTER ISSUED

Conditional approval letter is issued to the approved applicant by the Immigration Unit, MM2H Centre.

STEP 4: ARRIVAL IN MALAYSIA

After receiving the Conditional Approval letter: Open the required Fixed Deposit account in any bank  in Malaysia for one-year period on an auto renewal basis ** Purchase Medical Insurance in any insurance company in Malaysia summit Medical Insurance that is applicable in Malaysia. Obtain medical report from any private hospital  or registered clinic in Malaysia Fullfill Security Bond requirement (Direct Applicant only)

STEP 5: SUBMIT REMAINING DOCUMENTS

Submit remaining documents to the Immigration Unit, MM2H Centre: Submit Fixed Deposit certificate. Submit Medical Insurance policy. Submit medical report . Submit stamped Security Bond (Direct Applicant only)

STEP 6: COLLECT VISA

Applicant can now collect the Malaysia My Second Home Visa. The fee for Social Visit Pass is RM 90/year. Social Visit Pass will be given according to the validity of the passport (maximum 10 years).

IMPORTANT NOTE

Please take note of the following points:

  • Effective 9th January 2009, foreign citizens may apply to participate in MM2H programme directly, without going through any other third party, OR may continue to use the services of MM2H agents licensed by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Malaysia.
  • After 1 year, participants aged 50 years and above need to maintain the minimum balance of RM 100,000 for every year of stay under this programme and RM 150,000 for participants aged below 50 years. Participant needs to sign the Consent Form as Customer’s Declaration to authorise the Bank to confirm the existence of the FD when required by the relevant Government Authorities which can be downloaded from our website www.mm2h.gov.my
  • All copies must be certified TRUE COPIES OF ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS by EMBASSY /HIGH COMMISSION / NOTARY PUBLIC / GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL.
  • Where original documents are not in English, translation must be done by a qualified translator.
  • Dependent(s) refer to spouse and children aged below 21 years old (maximum 6 months before reaching 21 years old, i.e. 20 years 6 months old) and not married, parent(s) aged 60 years and above.
  • All documents enclosed with the present application become the property of the Malaysia My Second Home Centre.

For Approved participants who are applying directly, each participant and dependant must submit the Security Bond:

  • The Security Bond must be stamped (RM 10.00) by The Stamping Office at Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia. The Security Bond can be in the form of a Cash/Bank Draft/Money Order made payable to the KETUA PENGARAH IMIGRESEN MALAYSIA.
  • The Bond can be withdrawn if the participant/ dependant decides to exit from the MM2H Programme. The processing and approval process will take 90 working days from the date of submission of the application (provided the documentation is completed )
  • Please be informed MM2H visa holder are not allowed to work or be employed while staying in Malaysia. Persons wishing to obtain employment visas should apply directly to Immigration Department of Malaysia.
